Maternity and Home Office: How to Deal

Remote working with children can be challenging, but there are some tips that could help make maternity and home office easier. Learn more in this article.

Reconciling maternity and home office can be quite a challenge for moms. The main one is keeping focus and concentrating at work without being distracted by children, who often interrupt.

Read this article and check out 4 tips that will help you overcome this and other challenges in your daily life.

1. Have a space reserved for your work

One of the best ways to better focus on work is to set aside a specific space for it. Ideally, have a separate room from the rest of the house, such as a bedroom with a door that you can keep closed.

It’s important to explain to the parent or helper the restrictions and rules for entering the space, preventing them from interrupting you constantly and without much need. You can define in which situations you should really be called and establish times when they can count on you for moments together.

2. Count on a support network

When it comes to getting around the challenges of motherhood and home office, the father is just as responsible as the mother. It is important to have a support network and to be able to count on your husband, or even your parents or in-laws, in the daily care of your child.

They can change diapers, bathe, take the baby for you to breastfeed, and everything else the script calls for. With the exception of breastfeeding, whatever mothers do, their helpers can do too.

3. Use services that simplify your day-to-day

If you can’t count on a support network and have difficulty leaving the house because of the baby, there are logistical solutions that can help you. One of them is the delivery service. Supermarkets, restaurants, hortifruti, and other establishments often create promotions and delivery packages that can help you manage your purchases.

Planning a grocery list can also reduce the number of times you have to go out. However, although it is easier to choose frozen meals and fast food, you should pay attention to the quality of the food and choose homemade food, preventing illness and hospitalization.

4. Take care of yourself and your mental health

All these tips will help you have more control over situations, and better distribute your time between motherhood and your career.

However, it is important to keep in mind that being well should be your priority. Try to slow down and not push yourself too much. The pressures of maternity and home office together are already great enough, and in this scenario, it is essential to have emotional balance.

You can find this balance in a variety of ways, whether it’s exercising, meditating, seeking therapeutic help, or just allowing yourself to do activities you enjoy, without feeling guilty about spending time just with yourself.
